Funky Monkey Smoothie

The kids requested I post another smoothie recipe This is one of my favourite post work-out smoothies because of the protein content and it is super filling.

What’s in it:

  • Bananas = high in potassium and low in salt, FDA recognizes they can help lower blood pressure, and protect against heart attack and stroke. They are also high in fiber, aid in digestion and act as a pre-biotic.

  • Almond Milk = low calorie and nutrient dense. Be sure to get a brand that is unsweetened and unflavored with as little added ingredients as possible. I am not a big fan of silk, almond breeze or blue diamond brand. Or, make your own

  • Peanut Butter = protein and fiber, keeps you full longer. It also has folate (you want this instead of folic acid), vitamin E, magnesium and resveratrol. Get a brand that has only peanuts and oil, preferably organic.

  • Cocoa = yummy, anti-depressant, anti-oxidant, magnesium.

  • Whey Protein = amino acids, enhance internal glutathione production. Lots of whey powders are loaded with junk and artificial sweeteners. We get pure whey protein powder in a bag at Sprouts. It has one ingredient, imagine that?

  • Chia Seeds = fiber, protein, bone nutrients and omega 3.

  • Maca = B vitamins, energy, aphrodisiac, hormone balancing, mood regulator, stress reduction, immune booster. This supplement has changed my cycle and life. LOVE it! It is best to get a gelatinized form, organic brand.

Recipe:

  • 3 Bananas (greenish so there’s less sugar)

  • 2 Cups Milk (raw or full fat, no guar gum coconut)

  • 1 Cup Organic Peanut Butter

  • 3 Tbsps Organic Cocoa Powder

  • 3 Tbsps Plain Organic Whey Protein

  • 1/4 Cup Flax or Chia Seeds

  • 2 Tbsps Maca Powder (I like Gaia brand)

  • 1 Tbsp Vanilla

  • Dash Organic Grade Maple Syrup, optional to taste

Add ingredients to blender + blend until smooth.

Top off with ice + blend again until smooth.

Serve + Enjoy!
